Immunization Compliance with Med+Proctor

Texas Senate Bill 1107 (now TEC 51.9192) requires all students1 entering an institution of higher education (public and private) to either receive a vaccination against bacterial meningitis or meet certain criteria for declining such a vaccination2 . Texas Tech University requires proof of vaccination prior to registering for classes for the first time. Extensions may be requested and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis; in every instance a student must provide their vaccination record prior to the state mandated deadline of 10 days prior to the first day of class. In addition to a current meningitis vaccine, Texas Tech University also requires the submission of two doses of Mumps, Measles, and Rubella (MMR).

Evidence of Vaccination for Bacterial Meningitis³

Please note: To meet the state's Meningitis requirement, you must submit proof of the MCV4 (sold as Menactra, MenHibrix, and Menveo) or MPSV4 (sold as Menomune) version of the Meningitis vaccine. Meningitis serogroup B vaccine (sold as Bexsero and Trumenba) only prevents illness from a single strand of Meningitis and will not be accepted to meet the state's Meningitis vaccine requirement. Students who will be 22 or older on the first day of the semester are not required to submit a current meningitis vaccine. They are still required to submit 2 doses of MMR.

Evidence of vaccination must verify that the vaccination was received during the five year period prior to and no later than 10 days before the first day of the semester.

Entering Summer I 2021 - Meningitis vaccine must be on or after 05/23/2016

Entering Summer II 2021 - Meningitis vaccine must be on or after 06/27/2016

Entering Fall 2021 – Meningitis vaccine must be on or after 08/23/2016

Entering Spring 2022 - Meningitis vaccine must be on or after 01/05/2017

Evidence of Vaccination for MMR

All students, regardless of age, are required to submit documentation showing 2 doses of Mumps, Measles, and Rubella. In most cases, the MMR series will be part of your childhood immunization records. If you are not sure where to find your childhood immunization records, consider checking with your high school.⁴

Evidence of vaccinations must be submitted through Med+Proctor.

Exceptions to the Immunization Compliance requirement are as follows:

Students who are enrolled in an online degree program are not required to meet Immunization Compliance.
If a student cannot receive the vaccine because it would be injurious to your health and well-being: Provide an affidavit or a letter signed by a physician who is duly registered and licensed to practice medicine in the United States, in which it is stated that, in the physician's opinion, the vaccination required would be injurious to the health and well-being of the student.If a student declines the vaccine due to reasons of conscience, including a religious belief: Before you will be allowed to register for classes, you must complete and submit an original, Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Vaccine Exemption Affidavit Form- Affidavit Request for Exemption from Immunizations for Reasons of Conscience. This is the only acceptable documentation for this exemption, and this process takes a significant amount of time. The notarized affidavit can either be uploaded to Med+Proctor as a PDF or the original document sent to Texas Tech University Student Health Services within 90 days of it being notarized. If you choose to send the document to Student Health Services, you may mail the original notarized document to the following address:

Students who will be 22 or older on the first day of the semester are not required to submit a current meningitis vaccine. They are still required to submit 2 doses of MMR.
If a student is unable to locate their MMR records, an MMR blood titer showing disease immunity will be accepted. Titers are available at retail laboratories located all over the country. Check if AnyLabTestNow.com is in your area.
