How To Block A Number Iphone 6s

Sometimes, people can be plain old annoying when it comes to messages. Being constantly barraged by messages from a number of sources is incredibly annoying. While many of us may never be forced to block an individual from messaging us, it is something that some will have to do. Whether it is an annoying ex, someone threatening you or a number of other issues, sometimes, blocking text messages is needed. Thankfully, the iPhone has made it possible (and actually quite easy) to block individuals from texting you.

How To Block Text Messages on the iPhone 6S / 6S Plus

There are a few different ways that you can block certain individuals from messaging you on the iPhone, and they will all be looked at throughout this article. While you hope to never be harassed or bugged by someone enough to need to block their text messages, it does sometimes happen. So without further ado, here are a few different ways you can block messages on the iPhone 6S.

Block Messages From Certain Contacts or Numbers

If the people that are constantly barraging you with messages are in your contact list (or you know their number), then you will be able to block them with ease. This can also be done to one-time spam messages and such too. Here are the steps to take:

  • Open the conversation in the Messages app.
  • Then you need to tap the "i" button at the top of the screen.
  • You must then tap the name (or number) of the individual.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the info screen and then hit the Block This Caller button.

Once you do that, they will be blocked and will be unable to contact you.

Block Messages From Spammers/Unknown Individuals

Unfortunately, not all annoying or block-worthy messages comes from contacts or numbers that are familiar with. Many times, they come from numbers/people you don't know or spammers, which can be extremely annoying. While you can block the number once it messages you once, that doesn't stop new numbers from spamming you with messages. Thankfully, there is also a way to block messages from these people. While it is actually filtering the messages, it still gets them out of your face. The way to filter messages from unknown senders is:

  • Go to the Settings App.
  • Once in that app, you should go to the Messages menu.
  • Once in the Messages page, you need to turn on Filter Unknown Senders.

Once you do that, you will see a second tab in the Messages app, and it will be for messages from unknown senders. You can view these messages, but you won't get notifications for them, which will stop the annoyance.

Block Messages by Contacting Your Carrier

While you can block contacts directly from the device, you can also contact your carrier and they can help. Many have spam tools that can help you get less spam messages, and you can also tell them a number and they can block it for you as well.

Now that you know how to block people from messaging you, you may want to know how to manage the people you have blocked.  All you have to do is go to Settings > Messages > Blocked. This page will show you all the people you currently have blocked from messaging you, and will allow you to add and remove people from the list will ease.

In addition to blocking these messages, you can also report messages as spam in a couple of different ways. If you get a message from somebody who is not in your contact list, there will be an option under the message to "Report Junk". This will forward the information and the message of the sender to Apple and should help them become better with blocking these spam numbers in the future.

However, there is another way to report spam to Apple. While using the first way is much easier, it will only work for people who have iOs 8.3 or newer. If you have an older version (or just don't want to use the first method), you can email Apple directly. In your email, you should include a screenshot of the message you are reporting as spam, who sent the message (the number or email), the date and time that you received the message.

While some spam messages and such are likely going to continue to occur, at least we can easily and accurately block messages from contacts and numbers we know. As time goes on, there is a good chance Apple will come up with other ways and ideas to fight off spam and make it easier to block individuals (known or not) from contacting you.
